Climbing Instructor Training Courses

For all course listed below see Calendar for dates and details

Manmade Walls and Towers (Guide Level One Training)

This course is for those interested in climbing on manmade climbing walls and towers.  Very little experience is required but candidates must be able to work comfortably at heights of up to 12 metres.

Each year we run at least two weekend courses.  Usually there is one course in the early spring and one in the autumn.  Day one of the course is at Kinver Scout Camp and day two at Rhydd Covert Scout Camp Site.

Natural Rock Crags (Guide Level Two Training)

This course is for those interested in climbing on natural crags where there are fixed and insitu points of anchor i.e. trees, large boulders, fixed stakes or bolts.  This course is not for the complete novice but is suitable for those instructors or trainee instructors with only man made wall experience.  Participants will need to be comfortable working at heights of up to 20 metres and be competent belayers.

We usually run one course each year in either June or July.  The first day is based at Rhydd Covert Scout Camp Site and for the second we take a trip down to Symonds Yat Rocks in the forest of Dean

Real Rock Experience Days

The real rock days are open to all adult members of the Scout and Guide movements (18 and over) who wish to gain experience of climbing at natural rock crags.  You can be at any level of experience from the complete novice who just wants to come along and see what it’s all about, to the experienced climber.

Days are run on various dates throughout the year

If you need you own tailor made course for a small group of leaders why not talk to the Activate Team?

For all courses it is not important what age level you work with.  Rainbow and Beaver Leaders make just as good climbing instructors as Ranger and Explorer Leaders!
